Bergen collective Young Dreams released their debut single today a double a-side featuring Young Dreams and Flight 376. The release was a split effort by Telle Records, known for their early releases of Royksopp and Annie, and Beachtapes.

meke menete – lonely sexy death

Meke Menete have eked out a living digging around in Northern soil for sometime, flitting between monikers Youth, then Books, then Youth/Books. But now with a solid conceptual basis for their art, their existence has taken root and grown into a budding flower. Lonely Sexy Death creeps along with a dark mystery, as haunted vocals and distant ambient moods fill the spaces. However within it lies a quality that is very difficult to capture, and one which they manage to do so with aplomb. That quality is something similar to a burning soul, a yearning for life and the eternal yes! This track pretty much seems to cover the distance between illusory and the real, bringing to life a sense of affirmation. Listen to it below:

Once the hidden band of Camden Tribes have been creating a buzz recently, their songs show signs of early 90’s American bands, with the obvious link to Nirvarna and Pavement, yet with a helpful dose of english looseness. toro y moi – new beat

Carpark records prodigy Toro Y Moi has dropped another track, New Beat, from his next album and it’s a true funk masterpiece. New Beat will feature on Toro Y Moi’s forthcoming album Underneath The Pine due out on the 22nd February. We expect the album will move away from Toro’s original chillwave stance and move towards 70s infused disco having previously heard Still Sound the first single from Underneath The Pine. With little known about them yet Love Inks are a mystery coming out of Austin at the moment, although FST is sure this won’t be the case for long with rumours of a record deal on the way. Love Inks create melodies with purpose against stripped back textures of guitar and analog drums. Here their latest track Blackeye below.

A big fat plug for my boys in Playhouse. Resident writer Stephen Smith and his crew have just cut their first demo since reforming as Playhouse and the sounds are almighty. Asteroids is a sleepy vision, a somnambulist’s reverie, carried with precision to the aching denouement. The beat acts as a shattering driving force, instilling a metronomic momentum that builds and descends with subtlety. It seems like a great embodiment of the atmospheric movement, of the sounds of the wind finding sanctuary in the coves of new build flats; yet it always manages to get back to that beat, so propulsive as if the handclaps themselves are elemental forces. As it finds its way out of hard-drives and web-servers it seems to have found similarities in new electronic soul movements and drone-y aesthetics. Find the band at Tumblr here. memory tapes – today is our life

It’s been sometime now since Memory Tapes have been mentioned after the release of Seek Magic at the backend of 2009. However we have seen a glimpse of a second release with the airing of Today Is Our Life on the Something In Construction compilation shared by The Guardian. It’s a welcomed return of the New Jersey producer – watch the video for Today Is Our Life Below.

beans – mellow you out

Featuring TV on the Radio’s Tunde Adebimpe, Beans give us this: Mellow You Out. This will be taken from End It All, reported to have it’s own fair share of special guest flair, from Anticon on the 28th February. The track is a line drawn in the sand dividing Beans’ psyche-hop aesthetic with with a new, chunkier, bolder approach. And of course the introduction of Adebimpe only swells the love in my heart for this piece. In many ways he is the perfect choice to capture the necessary amount of soul needed for a Beans track.
