Star Slinger, the rising UK beat maker, has issued another of his works today. It is of course, Elizabeth Fraser, a re-work of the original Cocteau Twins track. It’s been a busy 6 months for Star Slinger who’s stamp has been firmly placed on some of the most exciting tracks of the year including, Deerhunter, Blackbird Blackbird and Teams.
Star Slinger will be supporting Ratatat in Manchester on the 27th November and venturing off on tour in the states in early 2011, more details to announced soon.
Blackbird Blackbird have an incredibly strong work ethic, this is undeniable. Throughout 2010 they have consistently proved themselves to be innovators, taking that perhaps overly prescribed chillwave sound and mixing it with some astro/cosmic sensuality and just a pinch of 80s flavour.
The release of their first LP Summer Hearts in the summer means we now get to float dreamily through a catalogue of their finest work as well as lots of original material. Available now for $10 from their bandcamp site, Summer Hearts is a lovely trip back in time.
Summer Hearts is streamed below:
Yesterday saw the release of Blackbird Blackbirds latest project Seeing Suge, combining forces with another of 2010s prolific re-editors Star Slinger and the Canadian based Emay. Hear the Breaking EP below featuring new tracks from all 3 artists and their collaboration and lead track Breaking.
Seeing Suge is a new project between Blackbird Blackbird, Starslinger and Emay. Their first track, Breaking, represents what we have grown to love about Starslinger with his J Dilla style productions, but this time with vocals from both Emay and Blackbird Blackbird. This really is a project to follow. We expect great things.
Breaking will feature on Collaborations, the first release on new indie label We Get By.

One of FST’s favourite blogs Beachtapes has announced the beginnings of its self titled label, which we are incredibly excited for. The launch also came with news of the planned release of San Francisco’s Fiveng, a double A-side single, Give Me A Taste and Jonah, set for release on 23rd August and a yet titled EP on 12″ later in the year.

Originating from Nottingham and now currently dwelling in Manchester, Star Slinger has been producing some sonically great hip-hop tracks this year, inspired from Curtis Mayfield to Cap n Jazz. Last week Darren Williams released his first collection of beats, Volume 1, sampling everything from child-fronted reggae to soul to 80’s rock. Volume 1 is available from the Star Slinger’s bandcamp page, I recommend you to go and download it now.
Star Slinger is also putting his touch on a few remixes of Teams and Fiveng. Listen below:
