Weekly Artist: Megaphonic thrift
Okay, so not completely new I admit, having released their first l.p. back in March after being snapped up by Deadly Records, Megaphoninc Thrift are the latest band to come from the thriving music community of Bergen, Norway. Again, these guys are not entirely new themselves, formed with members of Casio Kids, Low Frequency in Stereo and SYME.
Their l.p. Decay Decoy blends elements of My Bloody Valentine, A Place To Bury Strangers and a good dose of Sonic Youth. Whereas many bands have tried to replicate the aforementioned none seem to have done it as well as Megaphonic Thrift, who have the songs to back it up. The opening track of the album Talks Like a Weed King is a perfect example of how to take the best of the past and turn it into your own. Listen to the album on Spotify:
I was lucky enough to catch them at this years Bergenfest where they played a solid set to a hometown crowd. It was the best noise I have heard in a long time. Megaphonic Thrift have a string of dates across Europe this summer and I advise you to go.
